2012 Rolls Royce Jonckheere Aerodynamic Coupe II Concept

By Dutch coachbuilder Ugur Sahin Design as a homage to the original Rolls Royce Jonckheere Aerodynamic Coupe I, which was built in Belgium by Henri Jonckheere and his son Joseph in 1935. USD was commissioned by VDL Jonckheere to design a car which was a modern reinterpretation of the original vehicle. According to USD the concept was put together with the crucial idea of respect for the 77 year old design. That meant the designers were careful to retain the essence of the original, while also making sure to balance it with modern touches which bring it into the 21st century. (diseno-art.com)

1935 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Jonckheere Aerodynamic Coupe

In 1935, the Raja of Nanpara commissioned the Belgium shop of Henri Jonckheere and his son Joseph Jonckheere to design a one-off body for his Rolls Royce Phantom I. The Jonckheeres were well known throughout Europe for making bodies on both cars and busses.

The car itself is almost 6 metres (18 ft.) long. The doors, which are actually oval, required two half-moon pieces of glass that closed towards each other within a complex winding mechanism. Other details included sliding left and right sun vents, a sloping fastback profile and an enormous rear tail fin. It was also one of the few Phantom Is which featured a modified front grill. (supercars.net)
