1967 Lancia Flavia Super Sport Concept

The Lancia Flavia (Tipo 815/819/820) is an executive car produced by Lancia in Italy from 1961 to 1971. It was launched with a 1500 cc engine at the 1960 Turin Motor Show. Initially available only as a four-door saloon, coupe and convertible versions developed by Pininfarina and Vignale quickly followed, together with one or two low volume 'specials' including a Zagato coupe. Performance improved over the next ten years as the engine size increased, progressively, to 2000 cc.

As part of a plan to offer customers a wider range of models, Lancia commissioned Zagato to make a Super Sport version of its Fulvia, with the car (chassis # 820*050-000004) making its debut at the 1967 Turin motor show. Unfortunately, Lancia was acquired by Fiat before the Super Sport could make production, and it remained a prototype. (carstyling.ru)

In 1967 Zagato proposed a new interpretation of Flavia Sport. The first prototype of this sporty, on a new shortened frame, had the 1800 engine, the second instead, presented at the Turin Salon in 1968 and painted yellow had the most powerful two-liter engine.Developed by Zagato with the then chief designer Ercole Spada on a shortened (by 25 cm) chassis.

In 2014, this vehicle appeared in a driving report of the magazine "AutoBild", now restored and painted in a pale yellow. It is now part of the collection of Corrado Lopresto. (madle.org & loprestocollection.com)

1964 Lancia Flavia Sport Corsa Zagato

In 1964, the Lancia Works team presented the Sport Prototipo Zagato racing car, a unique creation with a lightweight body and numerous weight-saving measures. Powered by a 148 bhp, 1,848 cc single overhead camshaft four-cylinder boxer engine. Unfortunately, the drivers and the car did not see the finish line due to an unplanned off-road excursion during the race. After the Targa Florio entry, the car had a very short racing history due to limited funds.

Chassis 815538 1001 had many special features, starting from the light alloy body that was some 220 kilograms lighter, compared to the standard Lancia Flavia Zagato, as well as the shortened wheelbase for better handling. The Sport Prototipo Zagato car has a very aggressive and low slung look with twin air intakes on the bonnet for the long carburettor trumpets to reach and breathe. The model was sold for €190.400 ($250,000) in an auction in May 2012. (rmauctions.com)

Lancia Flavia Sport Zagato (1962-69)

The Flavia Sport was a 2+2 coupe that carried aluminum coachwork by Zagato. The young designer Ercole Spada created the unusual and aerodynamic shape of the Flavia Sport by using concave and rounded surfaces and an angled grille. Due to its lightweight body, it was easily capable of exceeding 100 mph and was highly successful in both rally and endurance racing. (sportscarmarket.com)

Originally fitted with a 90bhp 1.5L boxer engine that drove the front wheels, as the production progressed this was increased to 1.8L and twin carburetors for extra power (just over 100 hp), and eventually a mere 32 were fitted with fuel injection. Around 600 examples were made. (thepetrolstop.com  & sportscardigest.com)
