Built to contest the World Sportscar Championship, the 375MM was Ferrari's most potent weapon. Many examples were made to contest LeMans, such as the Mille Miglia (MM) which it is named after. While they were designed strictly as competition machines, a handful, as little as five, were sold road-going examples called Speciales.
First shown at the 1954 Paris Auto Salon, this 375 MM (chassis #0456AM) is fitted with a one-off body designed and constructed by Pinin Farina. Among its most striking features are the rotating headlights and the fins on the rear fenders. Powered by a V12 engine that produced around 330 hp.
It was believed to have been ordered by film director Roberto Rosselini for his wife, Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman. Even though she never took delivery of the car, chassis 0456AM is still commonly referred to as the 'Bergman Coupé'. Her husband, director Roberto Rossellini, did briefly own the car before it was sold to the United States. (ultimatecarpage.com)
Rosselini also commissioned another one-off 1954 Ferrari 375 MM Coupé (chassis #0402AM) with custom coach work by Sergio Scaglietti.
