2005 Volkswagen EcoRacer Concept

Powered by the then new four-cylinder 1.5 TDI engine, average fuel consumption of 3.4 litres for 100 km,
this prototype could well make history as the most economical the sports car of its time.
Thanks to its carbon-fibre (CFP) bodywork, this car with its centrally located engine weighs in at only 850 kilograms,
can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in just 6.3 seconds, and can reach a top speed of 230 kph.
But the intention of this concept was rather to create a research vehicle that
united the elements of economy and performance under a very emotionally styled "roof".

The concept car is really 3 models-in-one:

1. A CoupĂ© ....

2. After the roof panels and/or rear hatch removed, it turns into a Roadster....

3. Then when the frame of the windscreen removed
and replaced by a module with a short racing windshield,
the Roadster turns into a Speedster.....
