Aston Martin DBS V8 (1969-72)

The Aston Martin DBS is a GT car produced by the British manufacturer Aston Martin Lagonda Limited from 1967 to 1972. Powered by a straight-six engine, it was featured in the 1969 James Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service

In September 1969, the DBS was made available with a 5340cc V8 engine, this variant being known as the DBS V8. At the time, it was the fastest 4 seater production car in the world. The new model was fitted with light alloy wheels (as opposed to wire wheels on the DBS) and ventilated brake discs. Automatic transmission was offered as an alternative to the ZF 5 speed manual gearbox. The DBS V8 was produced until May 1972. The body was a modern reinterpretation of the traditional Aston Martin look, with a squared-off grille and four headlights. Distinguishing features of the V8 model are the larger front air dam and lack of wire wheels, The tail lights were taken from the Hillman Hunter.

Output of the DBS V8 was not officially released, but estimates center around 315 hp (235 kW). It could hit 60 mph (97 km/h) in 5.9 seconds and had a top speed of nearly 160 mph (257 km/h). Only 402 DBSV8s were built. (wikipedia)

A DBS V8 was to be used by Roger Moore in the television show, The Persuaders! However, no V8 car was ready, so a Bahama Yellow 1970 Aston Martin six-cylinder DBS was modified to look like a V8 for use in the show. This car had been restored and was auctioned off in an 2014 Bonhams auction for an impressive £533,500, which translates to $900,000 at current exchange rates.
