Audi R8 GT Spyder (2011-12)

Unveiled in 2011 at Le Mans, went on sale as 2012 Model Year vehicle. Audi R8 GT Spyder is the droptop version of the limited-edition Audi R8 GT. Only 333 units to be built in total (Europe: 217 copies. UK: 66 copies, US: 50 copies). Power output is identical to the coupe, with the 5.2-liter V10 producing 560 hp and 398 pound-feet of torque. Audi claims a 0-100 km/h (62 mph) time of just 3.8 seconds, and with the top up, a top speed of 197 mph (317km/h). Much of what made the R8 GT Coupe special stands true for the Spyder. Audi's main focus was on weight reduction, and by using a variety of lightweight materials it has managed to remove 85 kg off the total weight of the car. Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic plays a large role in dropping the pounds. Visually, the R8 GT Spyder sets itself apart with a dual-lip front spoiler, carbon fiber winglets on the front bumper, round (oval in US version) tailpipes, a larger rear diffuser and dark LED taillights. Carbon-ceramic brakes or Bang & Olufsen sound system is optional. The MSRP price tag of the GT Coupe is US$198,000. The R8 GT Spyder is priced at US$210,000. It is the most expensive model Audi produced todate. (autoblog.com)
