2008 Lexus LF-A Roadster Concept

Designated LF-A Roadster or LF-AR, the roadster version of the LF-A concept car was first displayed at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in 2008. Derived from the LF-A, the designation stands for Lexus Future-Advance Roadster. Under the hood, was the same 4.8 liter V10 engine as found in the coupe version. This engine delivered a maximum output of 560 hp. 0 to 60 mph took under 4 seconds, while top speed kept in the 200 mph area. The roadster concept is made up of carbon fiber and aluminum, supposedly maintaining a high amount of structural rigidity even without its roof.

The design of the future drop top should remain parallel to that of the coupe with possible tweaking in the headlamps and a few other minor tricks. The biggest change was the fabric soft top. The LF-A Roadster was also revealed to have a retractable rear spoiler for improved handling at speed. The concept show model featured side cameras in place of standard mirrors, and a two-tone interior. The "F" badges indicating its place as a member of the Lexus F performance division.

In 2012, Lexus axed the LF-A Roadster due to economic uncertainty in some markets. Only one prototype was made. (wikipedia & topspeed.com)
