Volvo P1800 (1961–1973)

The P1800 was designed in 1957 by Pelle Petterson, while he was a student of Pietro Frua. Powerd by a 1,778 cc B18 I4 engine producing 100 hp. In 1963 production was moved to Volvo's Lundby Plant in Gothenburg and the car's name was changed to 1800S.

Later in 1970, the fuel-injected 1800E variant could produce 130 bhp. Top speed was around 190 km/h (120 mph) and acceleration from 0–100 km/h (0–62.1 mph) took 9.5 seconds.

From 1972 came the 1800ES coupé station wagon version with an all-glass tailgate. Engine for the 1800ES was downgraded to produce 125 bhp (92 kW).

Almost 49,400 of the coupé version were produced, as opposed to only 8,077 of the ES sports estate (station wagon) version.

A P1800S was used by detective Simon Templar in the '60s British TV series The Saint.  (wikipedia)

Volvo Cars will showcase the 1967 Volvo 1800 S once owned by Sir Roger Moore and featured in television's The Saint at the Volvo Cars Heritage stand at Techno-Classica Essen, Germany, 21-25 March, 2018. It will be the first time the car is displayed at a classic car show in Europe.

Moore's car was built at the Volvo Torslanda plant in Sweden in November 1966. The 1800 S in Pearl White is equipped with Mini-Lite wheels with the rare original 'truncated' spoke design, Hella fog lamps and a Volvo wooden steering wheel. Inside, the car still has details from the filming of The Saint, such as a thermometer on the dashboard and a separate interior fan, used to cool the actors during studio filming.

Moore is the documented first registered owner of this famous 1800 S. The London registration plates, NUV 648E, were issued on 20 January 1967. Moore signed the registration papers two weeks later and they have followed the car since. (conceptcarz.com)
